People worry because they have seen videos of phones and e-bikes on fire. Those are real. But home solar batteries are different.
Why phones and e-bikes catch fire
- They often use NMC or similar lithium types that store more power in a small space.
- They get dropped, bent or crushed.
- Cheap chargers and fake batteries have weak protection.
Why LiFePO4 is different
Home solar batteries use LiFePO4. Its chemistry is much more stable. It resists overheating. It is why makers chose it for homes.
The real risks in solar systems
| Risk | How to avoid it |
|---|---|
| Thin cables that overheat | Use correctly sized cables |
| Loose connections | Tighten and check yearly |
| No fuse or breaker | Fit DC protection |
| Fake or Grade B cells | Buy from a trusted supplier |
| Physical damage | Do not drop or crush |
| Flooding | Mount above flood level |
Most "solar fires" are really wiring fires. Good installation stops them.
Warning signs
- The battery case is swelling
- It is very hot to touch
- Burning or sweet chemical smell
- Hissing sound

- Switch off the inverter.
- Turn off the battery breaker if it is safe to reach.
- Get everyone out of the room.
- Do not throw water on live electrical equipment.
