"Light don go again." In Port Harcourt, Obio-Akpor, Eleme and Yenagoa, you hear it every day. Here is why it happens and what you can do.
Why light goes
| Cause | What it means |
|---|---|
| Low supply | Not enough power reaching PHED to share |
| Load shedding | Areas take turns |
| Transformer overload | Too many homes on one transformer |
| Line faults | Broken lines, bad joints |
| Vandalism | Cables and parts stolen |
| Storms | Rainy-season damage |
What you can do today
1. Report faults
Use PHED's official channels. Give your account or meter number, address and the fault. Keep the reference number.
2. Protect appliances
- Stabilisers for fridges and ACs
- Surge protection at the distribution board
- Unplug sensitive items in storms
3. Track your hours
If you are billed Band A but get far fewer hours, record them and complain. See solar vs PHED Band A.
Your backup options
| Option | Good | Bad |
|---|---|---|
| Petrol generator | Cheap to buy | Fuel every day, noise, fumes |
| Inverter only | Quiet | Needs long grid hours to charge |
| Hybrid solar | Free sun, uses PHED too | Higher start cost |
