Lithium batteries do not need water. They do not need cleaning. But they do not like heat. In Port Harcourt, Warri and Yenagoa, heat is the main thing that shortens battery life.
Pick the right room
Good spots:
- An inside room that stays cool
- A store with a window or vent
- A wall that does not face the afternoon sun
Bad spots:
- A hot zinc-roof store with no air
- Next to a generator or cooker
- In direct sun
- A ground floor that floods
Keep air moving
Leave space around the battery. Do not pack boxes on it. A small vent or fan helps in very hot rooms.
Keep it clean and clear
- No petrol, diesel or paint in the battery room
- No clothes or cartons on top
- No water leaks above it
Good charging habits
- Let the panels fill it every day.
- Avoid draining it to zero often.
- Keep the inverter's lithium settings correct.
- If you have a hybrid inverter, let grid power top it up on very cloudy days.
